Active Hope are excited to offer this Foundation Safety and Rescue Training. 

The course is being delivered by Mike Ryder an experienced provider of paddlesports courses.

WHY TAKE THE FOUNDATION SAFETY & RESCUE TRAINING (FSRT) COURSE?

First of all, this award is all about keeping safe on sheltered water venues. So, whether you are paddling with friends or using the training course as preparation for Instructing and Leadership qualifications, this practical course is packed with safe, practical solutions. It doesn’t matter about your age or whether you Kayak, Stand Up Paddleboard, Canoe or Sit on Top, this course is solution focused and covers a full range of paddlesport craft.

If you needed any more convincing, the course is completely based around training, raising awareness with no assessment. Structured to support you, our experienced tutors will ensure you have plenty of time practising, as well as understanding how you can develop skills and experience after the course.

The course will cover many subjects; here is an outline of what you will explore during your course:

FOUNDATION SAFETY AND RESCUE TRAINING (FSRT) OUTLINE

• You will develop an understanding of safety principles and protocols;

• You will explore and practice different ways to provide a rescue from a bank;

• The tutors will support you in practising rescues from your craft;

• You will develop techniques to rescue swimmers from the water;

• Our tutors will share with you top tips to get paddlers back into their craft;

• You will know how to look after yourself and get others to the side;

• You will explore solutions if multiple paddlers end up in the water.

• There will be opportunities to develop and progress your own paddling skills and meet like-minded people during the course.

• Many of our course candidates develop long lasting friendships, connections and contacts.

Cost Includes: Equipment hire, tea/coffee and BC fees.

This course is non-residential but there are plenty of accommodation options close to the venue for anyone who isn’t local.

Active Hope are excited to offer this opportunity to become a qualified Paddlesports Instructor. 

The course is being delivered by Mike Ryder an experienced provider of paddlesports courses.

WHAT IS THE PADDLESPORT INSTRUCTOR AWARD?

First of all, this is the qualification used by outdoor centres, organisations and clubs to support their activity delivery. Secondly it doesn’t matter if you Canoe, Kayak, Sit on Top Kayak, Stand Up Paddleboard, this course allows you to develop your existing skills and passion for paddlesport.

• It’s your journey, our highly experienced tutors are trained to support you throughout this practical course.

• Your course will support you to run games, activities to support learning and inspire adventure for new paddlers.

• This qualification is open to everyone over 14 years of age!

The programme will explore a variety of subjects, here is an outline of what you will cover during your course:

WHAT WILL I LEARN ON THE COURSE?

• How to effectively prepare a group for an activity (e.g. kitting up and getting afloat);

• Together you will play with a range of activities to engage the group (e.g. games, tasks and journeys);

• You will explore a range of motivating activities and games that support learning;

• The tutors will support you to plan ways of using mini journeys to inspire adventure and exploration;

• You will develop ideas that allow you to help participants learn basic skills;

• Our tutors will share top tips and quick fixes for common challenges to accelerate learning;

• You will investigate how to select suitable equipment for participants;

• You will explore methods of maintaining participants’ safety and develop your understanding of deployment matters.

There will be opportunities to develop and progress your own paddling skills and meet likeminded people during the course, many of our course candidates develop long lasting friendships, connections and contacts.

Please note, before the course begins you will need to be BC (or other home nation member) and register for the award, you will also need to have completed the Foundation Safety and Rescue Training, we have a course available on 4th April at the same venue.
